Hey everyone! As an artist, few things are as rewarding as seeing an idea leap from a simple sketch to a fully realized creation. Today, I’m thrilled to pull back the curtain on my latest project – the “Just Banana” Reddit Collectible Avatar. This wasn’t just about designing a digital collectible; it was a journey into playful absurdity and layered identity.
The Seed of an Idea: Beyond Just a Banana
The initial spark for “Just Banana” came from a seemingly simple question: what if our digital avatars, much like us, had a hidden depth? What if you could literally “peel back” the surface to reveal something entirely unexpected and delightful underneath? The banana, in its quintessential simplicity and universal recognition, immediately became the perfect canvas for this exploration. It’s an object we all know, but what if its digital counterpart held a secret?
My goal was to challenge the expectation of a straightforward object. Instead of just a static fruit, I envisioned a character, a personality, that resided within the banana. This played directly into the concept of Reddit Collectible Avatars themselves – they’re not just images; they’re expressions of identity.

This project allowed me to really lean into the fun of character design and imaginative breakdown. You can see in the initial concept art how I began to dissect the traditional banana. The magic truly happened as I developed the “Something Inside” – the hidden personality. This evolved into the whimsical, cheerful humanoid character. Crafting its distinct features – the playful banana-hat, the expressive eyes, the unique body shape – was an absolute joy. Each element was designed to exude a sense of lightheartedness and charm, creating an avatar that feels both familiar (as a banana) and utterly unique (as a character).
